The workshop

In the heart of France, easily accessible, the Lutherie La Violonnerie workshop specializes in string quartet and double bass. I restore, even resuscitate old instruments. Also, I help diverse and varied musicians, beginners or professionals, from classical, traditional, jazz, rock culture ... to find or develop their instrument according to their needs and desires. I always wanted to be a violin maker. Originally from Germany, I joined the violin making school in Newark, England at 19. Shortly after, I found my true vocation: restorer of old instruments.

I take damaged, worn out, abandoned instruments, and I put them back in shape. It can take an afternoon, or several years. I have one or two large “on the go” restorations all the time. At the rate of one fracture per day, the instruments which arrive at the state of puzzles become whole again, then with the retouching, they become beautiful again. What a pleasure to make them ring again! In the meantime, I take care of maintenance and small repairs for the musicians - Seeing the difference and the smile that a simple adjustment can make gives me a lot of joy.
